Indian Art Became the Closing Performance in Bukittinggi Multiethnic Festival

Bukittinggi, (Antara Sumbar) - The arts performance of Indian Indian community represented by the Family Association of Muhammadan Padang (HKMP) became the closing of multiethnic festivals series which held by Government of Bukittinggi Municipality, West Sumatra.

HKMP Art Coordinator, Sofyan Wahab after his performance in Bukittinggi, Sunday evening thanked the organizers who had trusted them to participate in the event.

"We are grateful for being included in the activity, the sign of our existence as Indian ethnic is still recognized," he said.

For the activity, his side featured some of arts as it is commonly shown in India, namely dance and singing.

In such appearance, the whole is conceptualized in such a way that the color of Indian culture or tradition is really visible.

Dance movements still adopt the dance movement of Indian tradition, but for music and singing adapted to present condition, which displays songs or music that has been popular in community.

"For clothing, we also create special designs as traditional Indian clothing," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of Tourism, Youth and Sports of Bukittinggi, Erwin Umar said the activity will continue to be developed and improved for the future.

"In addition to the providing entertainment to public, the activity also aims to show the ethnic diversity that exists in West Sumatra as a form of unity and tolerance," he said.

Multiethnic Festival held in the court of Jam Gadang tourist attraction from October 13 to 15 as a weekend entertainment for visitors in the area.

In the event, there were 10 ethnic and participating regions, such as Japanese, Indian, Minang, Malay, Javanese, Nias, Tapanuli, Batak, East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan. (cha)
